EXPLORA project officially launched

by georg | Jan 6, 2025 | Uncategorized

The Künze lab is delighted to be part of the EXPLORA project, which was launched at its Kick-Off Meeting on December 16-17, 2024, hosted by ITENE in Paterna, near Valencia, Spain.

The goal of the EXPLORA project is to unlock the potential of aquatic extremophiles for sustainable industrial applications.

  • Objective: Discover bioactive compounds for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and recycling.
  • Focus Areas: The acidic Rio Tinto in Spain and the Antarctic’s psychrophilic regions.
  • Duration: 4 years (2024–2028).
  • Total Budget: €5 million

The Künze lab participates together with the lab of Professor Leo Kaysser (Pharmaceutical Biology) in EXPLORA. We lead the efforts in the search for novel extremophilic hydrolase enzymes and the discovery of natural products.
